Install VideoOutline

Add the Chrome extension and connect your account.

Before installation

VideoOutline is currently a private preview. Summary access is limited to administrators; registration does not grant access automatically. There are no active subscription charges.

After connecting, staying on a foreground YouTube video tab for approximately three seconds submits its URL, title, duration and available original-language captions to VideoOutline and the configured AI provider. Read the privacy policy and terms before connecting. You can disable the extension to stop new requests.

1. Download and install

Download Chrome extension v0.6.4

  1. Unzip the downloaded file.
  2. Open chrome://extensions in Google Chrome.
  3. Enable Developer mode, click Load unpacked, and choose the videooutline-chrome folder containing manifest.json.

If upgrading, replace the files in the previously loaded folder, click Reload on its extension card, then refresh YouTube. Reloading an old folder alone does not update it. This preview is not yet listed in the Chrome Web Store.

2. Connect your account

Open extension settings, then open the website login link in the same Chrome browser. Sign in to your VideoOutline account, return to the extension and click its connect button.

The extension verifies the application key and shows whether your account has preview access. If automatic connection fails, create a user key under API Keys and enter it in the extension's manual connection form. Do not enter a Gemini or OpenRouter provider key. The in-app browser and Google Chrome do not share login sessions.

3. Open a video

Open or refresh a YouTube video. The panel starts after three seconds in the foreground; manual generation starts immediately. Background tabs wait until visible. The default summary follows the spoken language, independently of the website language.

Generation time depends on available captions, video length and provider load. Some videos cannot be processed. Check important claims and timestamps against the original video.
